Okay, figured out it's probably because I bought it at a sale for 5 bucks. Can I add more money to what I already paid or do I have to buy it for the full price again to get future updates?

I have already bought the game last year, but the 0.35 update does not show on my download page,

Only 0.26 shows up as latest version to download. Why that?

Do have to buy it again to get the new update?

There is nothing wrong with quality, this is a high quality game. Just don’t compare it to Elden Ring or stuff, it’s an old school JRPG with new mechanics and meant to be that way. There are still people around who grew up with that genre and still like playing it. Even more than modern Action-RPGs.

Before starting a new game plus, I have a question: Is there any way to also restock treasure chests (or could you change the mod to do so)? If would be great to get major arcana cards more than once so more characters can learn spells.  I think it wouldn't matter if characters could become overpowered, because my party was overpowered in the end anyway,  I could take down the final boss within a few minutes and without posing any real threat to me. I even surrendered some of my characters on purpose before taking her down for their level-up pictures.

Does the magican card somehow aionize characters? I used it on Lilli just to learn spire, but then she had quite a lot of really useful spells which elevated her from 'pretty useless' to 'best fighter in the game'. Or is it because of something I may have equipped?

Another question, are all the major arcana cards already in the game? I never found tower, moon, nameless and several others, where are they?

Well, tastes differ. I don't need or want hardcore content in games, that's just going on my nerves. I think Didnapper did everything right and for me both titles  are among the best JRPGs ever made. The fetish mechanics all make perfect sense within the game system and are not just there for their own sake. It's a real game and fun to play, not just an excuse for showing explicit content like many other nsfw-games. I think I would also enjoy playing it if I wasn't into bondage.

Na, it's not entirely on you, normally I am tech-savvy enough that I should have thought about re-installing earlier myself. Thanks for the info with the Gem of Illusions, I remember getting it and trying it out once, but I misunderstood its purpose and thought it was for previewing or browsing through costumes without having to equip them. As I didn't have many costumes at this point (just the maid) I didn't use it again and then forgot about having that item later.

Oh, dammit! I am sooooo sorry for the trouble I have caused you, just tie me up and put me in a cave. When I googled the error message and read it COULD BE caused by incompatible savefiles due to platform switching I assumed that was the case here. So I forgot thinking about other possible causes, including the most obvious one. Now I did some further testing and it turned out it was caused by a broken game install or damaged game files on the windows machine. When I downloaded the game again and reinstalled it, everything seems to be working. Stop looking into the issue, there is nothing wrong with the game or my savefiles, the error was on my computer's side and must have been caused by a bad file transfer when I moved the gamefiles via USB-Drive to the Windows machine (because it doesn't have an internet connection, it's a retro games emulation console running windows under the hood). Again, I'm so sorry for troubling you with this. After the reinstall everything seems to be working.

One more thing I noticed (don't know if it's important): There seems to be something wrong with Arden. She never changes her appearance and always looks like she is wearing her standard outfit. I think it's been that way since the mission when you get the maid outfit. After she changed back into her normal clothes (storywise) I could never get her to wear the maid costume again (regarding to appearance) when I equip it. Equipping casual clothes doesn't change her looks either. I just hope my savegame isn't entirely effed up.

Update: I copied my savegames back to the Linux machine and there it is still working. But I want to play on my big screen running windows. I watched the Malutina sequence and saved when I got free the next morning and moved the savefiles back to windows, hoping a crash won't happen again. I kept playing for a while, but when I want to confront Zhara in the town hall the game crashes again (same error) when I enter her room.

I have uploaded the new save folder.  savefile 22 is right before Malutina city gate crash, savefile 24 is before entering the town hall crash:

https://www67.zippyshare.com/v/n6voMDr6/file.html

Would be great if you could do anything to help. I could continue playing on Linux but I want to enjoy the game on the big screen. I don't want to start from scratch on windows (because I can't even be sure if the Linux-widows-switch really is the cause of the problem, I only read in an rpgmaker forum that the "header is wrong" error could be caused by an incompatible savefile, so I assume starting on Linux and moving to windows is the cause of the problem).

edit: outdated, see newer post above for update

here is the folder (savegame 23 is just before the crash on windows):

DID Games please help, I got a problem with my savefile (I think). I started playing chapters 1 to 3 on my Linux Home Office PC, but then continued playing on a windows mini PC in the living room to use the big TV screen. I carried over my save-folder from Linux to Windows and it worked – until I just reached Malutina. When I get captured at the city gates and lead into the city, the moment the screen changes the game stops and I always get a "uncaught error: header is wrong"-message. Is there any way to fix this? I've already put a lot of time levelling up into it and I don't want to start over. I think it has to do with starting the savegame on Linux and then moving it over to Windows. (I'm playing the latest 1.1.1 version, btw.)

If I heard correctly the new version with sidequest updates should be out tomorrow.  So excited, I can hardly wait.

I don't understand what you mean. They already did and you can download it here:

https://didnapper.fandom.com/wiki/Game_Download

It's still a very good game with tons of bondage content and well worth playing – if you take it for what it is. Just don't expect it to be a direct sequel or the exact same thing Didnapper 1 was.

The heroes in this story do NOT abduct people, they only do it once (the priestess) and even that felt out-of-character for me and more like paying homage to the first game. A private prison wouldn't fit into the story concept at all. Only thing in this direction they could add would be to be able to do interrogation training with party members when camping but even that would feel like pure fanservice here (although I would welcome it non the less),

look into the update thread, I answered there

I don't have a Mac but in my Linux Install it is like this:

/home/username/didnapper2/1.0.3/Didnapper 2/www/save

So look for a www folder and for a save folder within in your game data. The files are named global.rpgsave, config.rpgsave and file#.rpgsave (replace # with number shown in the game). So a system-wide filesearch for these files could also help you find them (given they use the same filenames on Mac and Linux).

Hope that helps.

Okay, I wasn't precise, what I meant was: You are part of a bandit gang LIKE those you fight in D2, not specifically one of them.

BTW, are you on a German writer's forum? I think I saw the same user name there and writing "aber" (indicating you could be German) made me wonder.

There is no interrogation mode in this game. You can interrogate others 3 or 4 times in the story (later chapters), it's rather short until they talk and that's it, no toying around with them for fun. So nothing to compare with private cell in D1.

I don't understand what you mean. She's in your party (joins automatically).  In camp mode she sits SE of the fire. So when and where do you want to look for her?

Ah, finally, we can get Seles into something truly inescapable (you can only stand up and sit down again). Must be a bench Hephaistos made for Hera, much more effective than any AC-rope could ever be ;-)

Just don't press quicksave when you try out this bench …

Did you equip casual clothes or maid outfits? With these on, the characters look like you described. Equip normal clothes and they should look like before.

Accidentally posted on update page, so here again:

Thanks for the 1.0.3. update. Nice bad ending for losing the final boss fight.

Bug remaining: when you win a battle with a tied up character and she levels up, you get a level up picture in which she is also tied, However, that does not work in all locations. Annoying, as I made it kind of a ritual while playing to try to always level up in tied-up state (using surrender at the end of the battle).

another thing: going back to chapter 1 fighting Zhara, making subdue unavailable feels like a cheap solution for the battle being unwinable. Even if she only does 1 hp damage all you can do is surrender. Why not give her a sleep or stun skill or make the battle winable but she pulls out some dirty trick afterwards to turn the tables on you?

I had the same problem, also with Mint. The "Game" (desktop) file does not work so you tried to run "Game" (the binary file) instead? Wrong (I made the same mistake first because it seems obvious). But if you take a look into the "Game" desktop file, it does NOT link to "Game" (binary) but to a binary called "nw" instead. (No idea why they did this, it seems confusing on purpose). So to run the game make "nw" executeable, open a terminal and run "./nw". Now it works.

I don't know if that's possible because unlike Didnapper2 it's not a stand-alone-game. You'll also have to install 3rd party software to play it (some kind of rpg-maker libraries pack).

One more thing: D1 is the true DIDnapper game. D2 is more about a classic hero voyage and borrows gameplay mechanics from D1 but there is no real reason why it's called DIDnapper. In D1 you work for a kidnapper guild and go on missions for them to abduct people. You can also go hunting on your own, abduct random girls in forests and earn money by collecting ransom. You have a guild hideout that feels like a homebase. It also has a hero story (main character is a princess who was betrayed and abducted on her way to her coronation but joined the guild of her captors to use their resources to get her throne back instead of being locked away forever) but basically you are part of one these bandit gangs you fight in D2.

I completely agree. D1 had just one basic tie, D2 has chair, hogtie, frogtie, suspensions, poles, etc. Also, D1 only had legs, arms and gags to struggle with, so much more animation to do for D2.

The time would be better spent to make a meaningful interrogation system like private cell. For that it would be mostly dialogue to be written which is way less effort than drawing all these animations.

Didnapper 1 is free and you can download here:

https://didnapper.fandom.com/wiki/Game_Download

In fact, I'm replaying it right now. It's also great and I cannot say which one I like better. They are different. D2 has by far the better escape and combat system, D1 has by far more details, feels more fleshed out, missions can be approached in different ways and things play out differently (while D2 feels completely straight forward (think of the "not-Romeo and Juliet"-sidequest in D2 and multiply by 50 to get the idea how D1 feels)). D1 also has the great private cell interrogation system where you can toy around with defeated bosses and even your team members to make them learn passive skills like Greater Masochism. It even has seasonal easter eggs like April Fool Events and a Christmas Tree in your base and a much greater love for small details than D2 which sometimes feels a little plain in comparison. Also well worth playing. But you need a VM with a minimal windows install if you want to play on Linux.

Full Review for Newcomers:

One of the best games I played this year. Really, not joking (okay, maybe with the exception of Persona 5 Royal, but Didnapper 2 was still more fun). Classic JRPG retro style which plays like older Final Fantasy titles just with bondage mechanics. You don't just strike down enemies, you wear down their HPs and tie them up then. Same goes for your party members, a battle ends when one side is in bonds, but defeated characters can be freed by others. The combat system is really deep, there is status ailments, elemental attacks and weaknesses, buffing and debuffing, etc. Losing a battle doesn't always result in game over, often you'll be taken to a dungeon where you have to struggle out of various bondage styles in a mini game in order to escape. You can even a lose a battle on purpose (surrender-option) to be taken into the enemies hideout without having to look for it. The escape system is a also deep and requires strategy (interacting with guards, looking for items like shards, getting other prisoners to help you or just struggle). There are different body parts you can struggle with to free them (leg-bindings for walking around to look for items, gags to be able to communicate with others, blindfolds in order to inspect your situation). When you free your wrists, you escape. But you cannot always do that first because other bindings can make wrist-struggling nearly completely ineffective or even inaccessible. So it's much more then just a button-pressing minigame. At some points in the story you can interrogate other characters (even use light torture like slapping or tickeling). The interrogation system could be deeper and be used more often but it is still fun (although this part of the game felt like a big disappointment as I had much higher expectations here). The interrogations system is only used 3 or 4 times in the story (if I rember correctly) and that's it, therefore it feels a little pointless and not like a real game-feature. I hope it will be expended in the updates.

Storywise the game is also good, a low-fantasy setting with some twists and betrayals which I will not spoil here. It might not be the best fantasy story I have seen in a classic RPG (when compared to Xenogears or Chrono Trigger) but it's entertaining and a lot of work was put into the characters and it never got boring.

Do not mistake this game for some run-off-the-mill-hentai-fetish-nonsense, it's a real RPG with deep mechanics and just a lot of damsel in distress content. This (being a fetish) is the ONLY sex-related thing in the game, no one gets raped, severely tortured or even completely undressed. Really refreshing when compared to other games with fetish content. This one could still get a PG rating if you ask me. It's also not too short, you might be able to speedrun it in ten or so hours, my first playthrough took about 50 hours as I took my time levelling up and exploring everything.

Overall, a really great game. If you are into deep retro-style RPGs and bondage, it could be considered the holy grail and is an absolute must-play! It's DRM-free and there is also a Linux port. Please don't pirate it, support the developers to make more games like this and it's well worth the money they ask for. I even paid more because I found a $20 too cheap for such a great game. There is nothing which compares to this one (except for its predecessor which was also great, but Didnapper 2 has a much deeper escape and better combat system). Only thing I was really missing was the private cell system from Didnapper 1 (where you could interrogate teammates and other characters for fun and practice) and bad endings. In Didnapper 1 losing boss battles gave you several bad endings, in Didnapper 2 you'll just get a simple game over screen. Hey, just play both of them if you haven't already. It's really worth it.

Although not being perfect (interrogations part) I still rated it 5 out of 5 stars.

I just tried again because people keep saying that. The final boss fight is okay as it is (IMHO), with the right strategy you can beat her in just about three minutes with only a few large potions and some dispel dusts for curing status ailments. Look some posts further down where I explained my strategy to someone else. You can even silence her with Eileen's final gale spell (Grohl's Fear or something like that) to prevent her from using any special attacks. In fact the fight is quite easy if you know what you're doing. Also don't forget to use your coin cards to permanently increase luck or temporarily boost it with a spell or equipment, as a high luck stat will make it much more unlikely to get stunned by the rocks.

Did you only use one save-file? *shock* Never do that in RPGs or games in general if it's possible. Speaking from past experience, this is not the first game where a savefile could get stuck. I always switch to a different one every few hours I play so I can go back to an earlier one if that happens (or I realize I missed something important).

The game only does that when going back to older areas and only to a certain extend as there is a limit. I often found myself quicksaving before going into fights and pressing F5 (reset to title and reload) if enemy levels where too low to still give me EXP. Enemy levels fluctuate for about 10 levels in each area and it seems random what you get. Even if you have bound captives with you to bring into the fight for easy EXP and item drops, they can be level 38 in one fight and 45 in the next or vice versa.

The final fight is far from unbeatable, read my tips a few posts further down if you're struck. I found it quite easy to come up with a strategy here and took her down on my first try,

Okay, maybe I was just lucky, I'll replay it now. No, wasn't luck, I took her down again without any problems. Only Aden got tied up after being stunned near the end when the boss had only 2K HPs left, but three more magic attacks from the others (with MATK buffed once and MDEF debuffed twice) where enough to still take her down easily before she could pwn anyone else.

(1 edit)

Having just completed Didnapper 2 I'd like to replay Didnapper 1 again. Is there a Linux port by now? I'd like to play on my main computer (which is a Linux-only-machine) with the big screen the same way I played Didnapper 2, not on my small Windows laptop.

If there isn't, do you plan a re-release for all platforms on Itch? Although Didnapper 1 was free back then I'd gladly pay the same amount I paid for Didnapper 2 if there was  a re-release running on Linux (without having to install Windows in a virtual box).

Replay bug: If you go back with the story crystal to chapter1 and win the fight with Zhara, Seles will still be Zhara's captive after the battle although it was the other way around when the battle ended. This felt out of place as there was no explanation why the tables got turned. You should add a short scene in which this happens because I think many players will go back to see what happens if you beat Zhara that early in the story. You could even make it result in an alternate joke-ending: Zhara gets locked up on the island, Elize never finds out about Seles and the story never happens.

It took me even 55 hours as I always levelled up in an area until enemies didn't give me any significant amount of EXP anymore before moving on. I know I could level up faster by advancing the story earlier but I wanted to get everything out of every area without rushing it. I waited so long for this game and it felt so great playing it that I wanted it to take as long as reasonably possible. Now I’m really looking forward to the post game content in the updates.

Interesting, I got a different bug with Chelsea: When I entered the tent for escape training, Arden came in an told me I can use AC-Ropes now although she was not with me at this time (still on the ocean on the chroma ship).

Falling down from suspension almost always causes the guard to come in and tighten your remaining ropes. I think it's part of the challenge. Only if you are extremely unlucky they will hoist you up again, most often they just fasten your connection rope. If your escape level is high enough you'll have enough time to get out of suspension at least two times in this challenge as you'll get certain bonuses (critical hits (green flash), one extra second + delayed start per struggling and halved distraction penalty are the most helpful). Use camp to level up at least until you enable criticals (pressing a button fast enough will result in a green flash and at least double the effect). If you want, you can abuse the camp system to level up really fast by setting up a very short and easy challenge with "impossible" difficulty.   Use chair or frogtie and set everything to max except for wrists which you set up that you can still easily get free in 3 turns, then set timer to 9. Voila, "impossible" difficulty, very easy to get out in a few seconds and you'll level up on almost every try. A high escape level makes every escape challenge in the game feel like a walk in the park and you can even toy around with guards to make them angry on purpose. Later in the game I was missing an option to ask a guard explicitly to give me a harder challenge, something like "your ropework is an insult to my escape skills, can't you do any better?"

(6 edits)

I also was level 50 and took her down on my first try on normal without major problems. So either I was very lucky & you extremely unlucky or it's a matter of strategy. I used Seles and Kaie as magic damage dealers and Arden and Eileen for buffing, debuffing and healing. There is this water spell (I forgot the name) for constant healing (regen) you can get from a tarot card so always have it active and use large or medium potions if anyone gets seriously hurt. Don't underestimate buffing/debuffing as it's almost as effective in Didnapper 2 as it was in SMT Nocturne. Although Elize takes little damage from darkness still use Arden's Darkmatter Attack (dark or bone crystal) to keep her MDEF debuffed twice and use Eileen to also buff your MATK twice. Seles and Kaie will do a LOT more damage then.

Also make sure to go into the fight fully rested. After defeating Zhara you can go back and get captured for a last refreshing stay in the dungeons (yeah, I know there's a bed in the castle but beds are for losers). Just make sure you don't fight anyone while going back to not waste any CPs on the way (okay, you could also refresh CPs with items before going in but I never did that to save my chroma crystals for a fight I might need them in (but I never did).

Oh, I forgot: She can take down party members instantly if they get stunned. If that happens cure the stun ailemt ASAP and if it's too late stop attacking and focus on healing and freeing the person who got tied up as you need everyone. Eileen's spell to fill half of someone's ATB-meter can help a lot to make  your party member with the highest rescue skill act quickly. (BTW you can also utilize stunning attacks to take down female enemies quickly although it doesn't seem to work on bosses (but sometimes on their support characters, I could take down both of King Byron's retainers that way without having to wear down their HPs)),

Hope that helps.

Bug report (freeze (in v1.0.2)):

In the library, when you ask the guy downstairs to cause a distraction, he wants to do it and tries to run off to the north (up the stairs). If you ask him standing in his way, you'll block his path and the game freezes. Not fatal because you can reset and reload but annoying if haven't saved since entering the library.

It's still there, wait until you get your camp. However, there is (at least) one escape feature you cannot choose from the camp menu which you can get in the game (doesn't happen that often but I wouldn't call it rare either).
